The Quarrying Process

sandstone quarried in Cumbria
The quarrying of both the Sandstone and Limestone's are carried out by firstly drilling a hole to the depth of the natural bed height. The hole is then filled with a small explosive charge which releases the stone from its seam. The released stone is then split up into manageable blocks using plug & feathers, graded and then sent into the processing yard.
